My hobbies - astronomy

One more hobby I have been pursuing is astronomy. Its a different feeling to lie down on your back under a starlit sky, and be able to identify the stars in front me you.

Well how I got interested in this topic is a story by itself. I used to read comics of sindbad the sailor and was amazed to know that he navigated his ship with help of the stars at night.

Well this and some other such stories built my curiosity to unravel this ancient skill. Luckily a kind person came to my help and led me to this hobby. Mr anand ghaisas, a teacher of astronomy @ khagol mandal led me to a night watch program where one is introduced to the "Stars of the night". Here the knowledge of the night elements and various objects is imparted and you get to know how sindbad knew where he was going. Check out www.khagolmandal.com If you would like to know more.

Journey to a Server Datacentre passes through a Women's washroom...

A Journey is never fulfilling untill there is some humour in it, i came across a very humourous article some days back, thought it worth your reading pleasure...

In fact, my profession entails setting up new Data Centres and for some research purpose, i looked up some articles and i ran into this one... believe me, truly majedaar and interesting...if you have the patience, click on the link at the end and you can see the photos and some lively comments on this matter...

here we go...

A few months back, Jen Frickell's company was given some bad news. When their lease ended, they'd have to move out of their second-floor suite. The good news, however, was that a suite would be available on the first floor. All they'd need to do was pack up and move downstairs.

It was a fairly reasonable request, so the company's executives signed a new lease and prepared to move. There was, however, just one, small hitch. The nice little server room they built in the back of their office - equipped with air conditioning units, ventilation, dedicated power, backup power, and so on - could not be relocated. Not only would it cost too much, but there was simply no room for it. The server room would just have to remain upstairs.

Obviously, the new second-floor tenant wouldn't want their neighbors walking through their office to access a server room, so building management and the company's executives came up with an alternative: wall off the server room door and build a new one. It seemed simple enough, but there was, however, just one small hitch. The only available wall to install a door was adjacent to the women's restroom. Inside the handicapped stall.

And since you're reading about it here, you know that didn't stop them. Here is the email from building management:

Subject: Server Room Access

Hi all.

As you all are aware, we have new tenants that have moved into
the 2nd floor suites. The access to the server room is now via
the women’s bathroom.

There will be a sign on the woman’s door that can be changed
from OPEN to CLOSED and vice versa.

Should you need to enter the server room, please change the sign
to CLOSED. Once you are done, please change it back to OPEN.

Once you enter the bathroom, you will be able to access the
server room via the handicapped stall. Please close the stall
door prior to entry, just in case someone doesn’t see that the
bathroom is closed.

I know this isn’t ideal, but if we adhere to this protocol, I
don’t think anyone will be disrupted.

Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions.

Jen was kind enough to snap a picture of their just-finished server room entrance.
Pictures of the same alongwith the original article is here!!!

My Hobbies - Motorbiking

As goes this blog... the journey of life is easier when you have something to keep yourself occupied. Some of my weekends i indulge in outdoor hobby, my Motorbike and the long roads...

Some weekend, i get up by 6.00 am and mount my bike and head toward either Lonavala or Pune or Some such nearby place...The ride is usually solo or at times with my group of friends at www.mumbaibikers.com .

The roar of the bike, the feel of the breeze thru the hair, flapping of the shirt against the back, feeling of power on the road and a long long long road ahead are some of the feelings that only a biker can understand...

We @ mumbaibikers are gonna go to Leh, the Capital of Ladakh by bike on 28th June. We would be going to NewDelhi via Train, the bikes would be transported via some road transporter to NDelhi and then on we and our bikes for company, all the way to Leh via Chandigarh, Manali etc... From Leh, we would be going to Siachen Glacier and then on to Jammu. Its a total ride of apx 1200 Kms and going to about 18350 Feet above sea level. Its also known as the ROOF of the world, as it is the highest motorable road in the world.

I will be posting live from the roads whenever i get network access.

My Hobbies - Ham Radio

As goes this blog... the journey of life is easier when you have something to keep yourself occupied. I have some hobbies, which keep me quite busy. The following is a list of hobbies i follow, though not in the order of the amount of time they demand on my busy schedule...
Ever wondered how it feels like to be able to speak anywhere in the world for FREE???
well, thats what every Ham Radio operator feels when he/she puts up a radio set, connects to a 20mtr wire antenna and is able to comunicate to a person half way round the globe.
Way back in 1989 when i was studying in St. Xaviers for my electronic diploma, we were introduced to the HAM radio as a additional study material. However, it never struck to me at that time that one day, i would fall for it again. As most teens today do, i was a bit uninterested at that time and let it be. Now, after so many years, and reading about it in the press at the time of Kutch Earthquake, I felt nostalgic and felt that this is what i missed out during my studying days. I immediately started looking around for a HAm training session and came across TARA [Thane Amateur Radio Association] classes. During the entire course i came across some very good people, whose wisdom and practical thoughts are part of my experiences. Learning all about radio waves, radiations, frequency bands, antenna orientations, radio sets, DXing etc, is a very interesting topic and i am following it as much as i can.

Very recently I passed the grade 1 exams conducted by the Wireless & Planning Commission, which means, i am eligible for a Licence to own and operate a Radio set very soon. This hobby is a constant work in progress and a very interesting one at that.

My Hobbies - Shri Ganesh Collection

As goes this blog... the journey of life is easier when you have something to keep yourself occupied. I have some hobbies, which keep me quite busy. The following is a list of hobbies i follow, though not in the order of the amount of time they demand on my busy schedule...

I am an avid follower of Shri Ganesha-The hindu Elephant Faced God. He is a source of immence encouragement, patience and willpower in times of peril. I was always awed by the various forms a Ganeshji's statue takes in India. I started collecting all unique shapes and sizes of Shri Ganeshji since the past few years. Each of my outdoor/Outstation visit is peppered with a visit to a local temple, where the shopping area is bound to get me access to some new form of Shri Ganeshji. Till date i have some 42 Unique statues collected and occupying a place of pride in my Drawing Room. I keep collecting them, but now its getting difficult to find unique shapes. So its becomming more challenging to develop the hobby.

My furst blog...

It always was a painful task to select a perfect blogname and i never could think up some name that would comprehend all my hobbies and be self explanatory in the first place.

You must be wondering what does the name mean...
Well, as i was pondering for a name for a new blog, i was not sure how to go about doing it. Fortunately, a good samaratian chatted my way and after a little bit of scratching of heads, and banging up ideas, Suresh Varma came up with this one.

"Road to lazy eight" which means road to infinity or "journey to Lazy Eight" lazy eight is a sign for Infinity. The Figure of 8 written horizontally is a lazy 8, and thats . Greek symbol which is also the lowercase omega. Omega is the last letter of greek alphabet which means upper limit or end or limitless...

Combining short messeging lingo, i finalised on j2lazy8.blogspot.com

If one discovers a wise person who points out one’s errors and sternly corrects one, he should be looked upon as a benign revealer of a treasure. His company should be sought. Such association would make better persons of men. Dhammapada - Verse 76

I am fortunate enough to have wise and learned men in my life and i seek to be a better person - everyday of my life.
